No Time Like the Present: A Customized, Multigenerational Family Trip to Italy
After selling her business, being confronted with her father’s cancer diagnosis, and moving halfway across the country, Andrea gained a new perspective about life. Her parents and children had never been to Europe, her husband had never been to Italy, and, as she put it: “life is short.” She decided to treat her parents, husband, and two sons, ages 14 and 10, to a multi-destination, two-week trip through Italy, including a stop to visit the village where her grandmother was raised.
Rodney and his team at Luxe Travel Consultants had planned an anniversary trip to Greece for her and her husband, Michael, a few years ago and she knew the unparalleled experiences they were able to curate.
“I didn’t even consider going to anyone else to help me plan this,” said Andrea. “I picked up the phone and called Rodney.”
The Trip
Six individuals, including two seventy-year-olds (one with limited mobility), an active, middle-aged couple, a hard-to-impress teenager, and a wide-eyed, adventurous little guy, with interests that ranged from archaeology and history to wine and food to flora and fauna, needed to have the experience of a lifetime. “I knew this was the only time we would be able to do something like this with my parents,” Andrea said. “I wanted every person on the trip to have something that they were especially looking forward to and felt just right for them.”
After almost a year of planning, the family was set to visit Rome, St. Giovanni de Fiore, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast, Sienna, and Venice.
The Challenges and Solutions
Andrea’s father needs two new knees and, as a result, has limited mobility. Her mother wanted to feel safe while trying new things. The teenager didn’t want to spend all his time in churches and museums. And Andrea wanted some family history research done so that the time in her grandmother’s village would be meaningful.
Rodney and his team had a long list of things the family wanted to experience—and met every challenge with ease. Mobility issues? Incorporating golf cart tours and private water taxi assistance to see the sights. Hard-to-impress teen? Stay at top-of-the-line hotels with breathtaking views in the middle of the action. Foodie family members? Amazing winery tours and cooking classes in Tuscany. Archaeology and history buffs? Private tours of the Colosseum, the Vatican, and Pompeii! Meaningful trip to village of origin? Private genealogist to research, guide, and translate.

The Experiences
“Every family member has a different ‘best day,’” said Andrea. “My mom loved wine tasting in Tuscany and strolling in Sorrento, my dad loved seeing where his mom grew up and meeting relatives still living in the family home, we all loved eating in a lemon grove and seeing the classic sites in Rome, and the boys loved the gelato, seeing where the gladiators came up from below the Colosseum, and Pompeii. I loved getting lost in Venice, running in Tuscany, exploring little villages, and experiencing it all with the people I love most.”
The memories will last a lifetime. “From eating at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Rome to taking a late night public bus in Positano and laughing until we cried, just thinking about the trip makes me want to do it all over again,” she said.
The Impact
A trip is so much more than the sites visited, the food and drink consumed, and the miles traveled. It’s the shared jokes, the conversations around tables, the tears when meeting relatives for the first time, and the concentrated time spent together. “I saw my dad a month after we returned and he told me that he still dreams about the trip,” Andrea shared. “Rodney and his team made that possible—made possible the memories all of us will keep for our lifetimes.”- Andrea A.

We absolutely loved Turks and Caicos and thought you might want some feedback to share with others.
The island is unbelievably beautiful. We have always seen a lot of poverty on other Caribbean islands that we have visited. We did not see that on T & C. The island is very clean, safe, and the people are very friendly.
The Palms is a beautiful resort. We had a one bedroom ocean view suite. Amazing room with 2 balconies. We enjoyed a day of snorkeling and another day of kayaking in the Mangroves. The breakfast each morning was lovely.
The food on the island was awesome. I think our favorite was Coco Bistro, but we enjoyed Grace’s Cottage, Magnolia’s, Hemingways, Bay Bistro, and Baci. Our least favorite meals were at the 2 restaurants at The Palms. The food was good, but service was slow and they were the most expensive.
Overall, we had an absolutely wonderful trip. Thanks again for all your help in organizing this wonderful trip for our 40th anniversary!- Christine P.

We met Rodney as guests on a riverboat cruise, spending the very early morning hours with us discussing “world events†and “raising children†while getting our coffee before breakfast. By the time the cruise was over, we felt that Rodney was our new best friend.
We never used a travel agent until we met Rodney and his wife, Lisa, but after getting to know them, we asked them to plan our next vacation. We never anticipated the wonderful services and expert strategic planning we would receive.
Rodney booked us on a spectacular trip to South Africa. Surprisingly, he recommended refundable airline tickets through a special 2 for 1 purchase arrangement. He also recommended we purchase travel insurance directly from an insurer rather than through the travel company. Close to the start date of our trip, we were forced to cancel due to a family emergency. We received a full refund from the airlines within 24 hours. By using an independent insurer and by rebooking our trip for a later date, we did not need to pay for another travel insurance policy. We did not lose a penny. A year later we went on the trip we originally planned. Financially, it could not have worked out better for us but only due to how Rodney booked our trip!
Shortly after, we asked Rodney about another trip. We found a tour to a desired destination within our scheduled timeframe and asked Rodney to book the tour. He asked us to give him a few days to research our proposal and came back telling us not to use the tour company we suggested to him for reasons we were totally unaware prior. He recommended another tour company and we went with his recommendation. The trip went beyond our wildest expectations! We certainty appreciated what Rodney did steering us to this tour company.

We live as private chefs in Bonaire, Dutch Caribbean, and were planning to make a cruise this year. So we went to see our local travel agent but they had no knowledgde at all about cruising. So we tried to book a cruise directly with Princess Cruises.
As non residents of the USA or Canada this was not possible. Too many regulations and rules we thought. Then we remembered we cooked for a big family a few years ago on Bonaire and we still follow each other on Facebook. So we contacted Rodney George of of Sun, Sea and Sand Travel and asked him if he could help us.
Within a few days our cruise was booked and he even gave us a lot of good advise. Arriving at Fort Lauderdale we even found out that we got a last minute upgrade to the 15th deck of the Royal Princess.
It goes without saying that we had a fabulous first cruise visiting Antigua, St. Lucia, Barbados, St. Kitts and St. Thomas. My advice is to always use Rodney's services when booking a cruise. They were fantastic!!!
