We just returned from an awesome week spent at the Grotto Bay Resort and Spa in Bermuda. This location was recommended by our friend and travel agent, Ellen Griffiths. She had fond memories of a trip she took years ago with her aunt. The resort was renovated in 2019, and this was an excellent recommendation. Mrs. Griffiths is meticulous in making sure that every aspect of the trip is well-planned, and it is not uncommon for her recommendations to come from her own experiences with her family and friends. I doing so, she brings a personal touch and wealth of knowledge and experience that makes all the difference when planning a vacation.
The official "season" opens in Bermuda the first week in April. We were lucky enough to have most of our stay before the cruise ships started to arrive. This made the experience relaxing and not too crowded. From the first person who greeted us at the resort to the staff wishing us a safe journey home - the residents are proud of their island. It is evident in the warm smiles and gracious service we enjoyed every day. Our tour guide was a treasure trove of knowledge about the island, including history, traditions, culture, and natural elements of his beloved home. Ellen has the information to recommend this amazing, 72 year old man, who is indeed a national treasure. He comes with our highest recommendation.
During our stay, we enjoyed a rejuvenating couples' massage in the Natura Spa on site. The massage tables rest on a floating "dock" in the middle of a natural lake in a beautiful cave. A tent over the dock and massage tables kept the water from dripping on us during the session. It was very much like being in a gently-rocking boat with the relaxing sounds of water dripping from the ceiling of the cave. Soft lighting and gentle music added to the experience. Both massage therapists were experienced and very good. Following a massage, the clients can swim in the water or simply relax in a cozy seating area while enjoying the healing and restorative atmosphere. It was an amazing and memorable experience.
One of my personal experiences from our trip will give readers some insight into the kind of people we encountered during our stay. Before returning to the resort from the Royal Navy Dockyard, I neglected to pick up my phone from the shuttle stop. I realized this an hour later when we returned to the hotel. Losing a phone is so much more than replacing a device - the contact information and pictures are irreplaceable. There was an all-out effort to get the phone back to me that included the woman who found the phone, her neighbor who brought the phone to the local police station, the sergeant who drove the phone to the town of Hamilton, where two female officers drove the phone from Hamilton to Grotto Bay. There were at least six Bermudan citizens who made the effort to return my phone. Their kindness will stay with me long after the vacation is over.
Our week was a quiet and relaxing time. Ellen's recommendation was spot-on with what we were seeking during our stay in Bermuda. In short, the entire experience was well-planned and delightful. It is my pleasure to recommend Ellen as a dedicated travel agent who takes great pride in matching her clients with travel experiences that are tailored to each person or group. Oh my goodness where to start. We attended an Alaska vacation presentation, On Stage Alaska, hosted by Andy & Jen from Cruise Planners and Holland America. Halfway through the presentation we were hooked and ready to go. We sat with Andy to get all the particulars and options for which trip to choose as he had multiple options to pick from. He explained everything in detail and offered excellent advice as he had been to Alaska already. With all the information, brochures and hands on knowledge he provided we booked immediately. I have to say it was the trip of a lifetime, the memories still bring a smile. Everything went fantastic on the trip from white water rafting, quad riding, jeep excursion, awesome train rides, Denali sighting and cruising all through some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere. As we enjoy the longest stretch of sea days of our World Cruise, I wanted to take some time to say a big public “thank you” to our friend and travel agent, Andrew C. Warren of Cruise Planners. Among other things, Andy did all the original work so that this trip would happen in 2020 — we all know how that went — and then made sure we got our money back promptly; spent countless hours on the phone with Seabourn reps — and on hold! — to ensure we were re-booked in the same cabin for 2023; that we were given all the discounts, price cuts, offers and perks to which we were entitled; got the company to change our “included” flights after they booked us on sub-optimal flights, even though it supposedly couldn’t be done, etc. Thanks!
