Hi Carol It was a beautiful trip!! We had so much fun and loved the food wine and scenery. Weather was gorgeous. Lots of laughs. Only down side was Santorini but I think it was the fact that there were 4 ships in port on the same Day. Total nightmare!! But we made it through. Hi Carol, The Italy trip was OUTSTANDING! The tour director and the professor were great. I couldn’t have asked for any better. His name was Leandro and he is an Italianbwho speaks perfect English and has been doing this for over 30 years. The size of the group was perfect, 24. Everyone was really nice, no jerk amongst the group, lucky us! The destinations were great. The hotels were pretty good, some could have been better, but all were clean. The amount of days of the tour was very good. We could have used more time in a couple of places, I.e., Florence. I would HIGHLY recommend this tour company and this specific trip. I would definitely consider another Smithsonian tour, but I would want our Italian tour guide, Leandro! Please be sure to pass the positive review onto your colleagues at Smithsonian. Happy new year Carol - we had a great, great trip to Portugal. We loved every stop and every hotel. The flights and car rental were comfortable and easy (we all sat together on each leg of the flights) and we just enjoyed every minute of our time there. So thank you! Best, Beth
Good Morning Carol Our cruise was great, had a wonderful time. Two days in Munich were fun. Munich Christmas market is very large. great mulled wine. Went to Hofbrauhaus for lunch one day and had a fun time listing to the band. Like we did when we lived there in 98. Flights were excellent and right on time. Business class is so much easier to do the long flights and get some sleep so were rested when we got there. We sailed on the Viking Ve with the Hermod crew. Hermod the scheduled ship could not get to Budapest due to low water. When we sailed we had 10" of water under the keel and when we got to Passau we had just 3" clearance under a bridge just as we got there. It started raining just before we went over and rained or snowed just about every day so no cruising problems Cannot say enough about Viking, ship was sparkling clean, crew gave great service, suite was excellent as we remembered it from the Rhine cruise and the meals were wonderful. Gained a couple of pounds with the ship food and the Christmas market food and wine. Christmas dinner was a 6 course meal in the European tradition, excellent dinner. Weather did not bother us as we were prepared for it and generally we lucked out as it would rain in the mornings while we did the bus part of the tours and then seemed to clear up while we did the walking part of the tours. Thank you so much for the sweets at the start of the trip. Just Excellent! (Picture attached) Took 533 pictures. Now have to edit and put them into a show for the trip for our memories. Couple of other pictures attached. One in Budapest at a snowy rest stop by Fishermen's Bastion and a street view in Cesky Krumlov. One of the best tours was the all day trip to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. Very old Bohemian town, narrow cobblestone streets and small shops and great restaurants. Small old style Christmas market, A great day. We like the Viking tours as the walking is easy and the guides using the radio sound systems means you can hear them clearly all the time. Don't have to be in a very close bunch. Now have to start thinking about next Christmas. Looks like we will be up in May about the 12th-20th. When we get firmed up will give you a call and see if we can do lunch again. Thanks for doing such an excellent job on the trip for us, we really appreciated it. Warmest, Pat & Jack

The accomodations on the ship were great, it was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, the tour guides were outstanding, the overall experience was wonderful and we will definitely go on another river cruise with Viking. Hi Carol, The trip was amazing. We should have a telephone conversation so I can give you more details than I can in an email. The shore excursions you helped set up were just fabulous! Very professional, very smart bright tour guides who truly educated us about their countries. The ship was great also. Celebrity Cruise Lines is top notch. Two weeks on a ship was enough. We were ready to get away from the big buffets and unlimited drinks......back to the real world. Thank you again for helping to organize the trip. Hola Carol! We had a really great time. The weather was perfect - not nearly as hot as it has been. Thank goodness. The Globus tour was exactly as you described - very good. Not the Tauck champagne level - mostly evident in the hotel choices and little things/extras but the itinerary and quality of the tours were excellent and the group of people on the trip were in some ways much more interesting for us - younger and from a great diversity of backgrounds. We made lots of new friends. There was a lot more bus traveling than we had anticipated - I do wonder if they have a high speed option. But still, we felt as though we got a deep understanding of that whole part of the country. The trip definitely surpassed Ed's expectations - he had a really great time. Maya loved it and her spanish came in very handy! We were wishing to stay longer (I think their itinerary should include a couple of more days, the one night stays in two of the cities are not so appealing) and felt like it was a country we want to see more of. Thanks so much for steering us so well (and patiently!), Carol. All of the airline logistics worked beautifully as well. PS - and how grateful I was to have the La Sangrada Familia indoor tour tixs! It's so strange to me that Globus doesn't include that or even advise people ahead of time to get tixs for that tour. It was my favorite architectural experience of the whole (amazing) itinerary... J
Hi Carol! We had a fantastic time in Europe and it was definitely almost perfect with only a single hitch. You did a great job. The hotels were all great and the one in Rome was fantastic once we switched to the Grand Minerva Hotel Sorrento was beautiful. The Vespa was so much fun. We had a private tour and it wasn't too scary, but Patrick was driving. I don't think I could've driven one myself. We also took boat tour recommended to Capri and along the coast and that was amazing. We ended up renting a car just for the convenience of not having to wait around for the shuttle bus which stopped at multiple hotels. thanks for organizing everything! Carolyn & Patrick - Carolyn C.
