As the name suggests, you are led to believe that you will be treated to some outstanding local food, but it was nothing more than a pub crawl and mostly alcohol. When it came to food, it was only one bite of something in a Dixie cup. Steer clear! Coming off of a first class ship with gourmet food, it was a waste of time completely. Other than that, we loved our vintage train and sled dog excursions! The cooking classes aboard the ship were second to none! If we missed an email detailing the airport to hotel to ship process then that's on us but we ( and clearly at least one other couple that booked through you) were completely in the dark about how to navigate once we arrived in Anchorage. The Silver Seas representative that we happened upon at the airport also gave us the wrong information re: hotel shuttles, and once we got to the hotel (via Uber) the front desk did not know where to direct us to go to get the transfer to the cruise ship. After multiple calls, however, we were finally able to get clear directions to the convention center and it was smooth sailing after that. Definitely a hiccup in the plan.- Martha W.

When I say "sensational," I mean the very essence of the word. All of my senses were tantalized for the entire stay--from sight to sound to fragrance to touch to sound to even the most subliminal feelings. The sensory elements will remain with me forever, I am quite sure. Tops on my list, aside from the stunning modern-organic architecture and aesthetic, are the people who work at this resort, Their love for it is obvious. From bellhop to concierge, from waitstaff to masseur, from housekeeper to general manager, they all portray a genuine pride in their profession. We felt honored and revered by them all.
That said, it was our 25th anniversary and we were given a room with two beds, not one. We were told that if we wanted one king bed, it would not have the much-preferred interior view. Obviously, we did not want to have to look at the construction site and put up with its noise, so we accepted the room with two beds. It was okay but not ideal for such a magnanimous occasion as our 25th anniversary, which is no small feat. Now, on to a few other things that were not up to par:
1. We dined at every restaurant on the property. Best was Bisou, the French restaurant, by a long shot. It was the ONLY one that timed the courses correctly and delivered our orders correctly. The others were all very spotty. Another great standout was the taco "grill" out on the patio, which saved us a couple of nights when the wait was so long at the main restaurants.
2. Wine. Please have something on the all-inclusive menu besides Mexican and Spanish wines.
3. Spa. This was a GREAT experience, but $40 for a day pass for less than an hour is too much.
4. Buffet. This was consistently the BEST food, drink, and service at the entire resort.
5. Dress code. This was very unclear. The app said long pants for men at dinner in the finer restaurants; the letter from the concierge said shorts were acceptable. A mixed message, Make it consistent and clear.
6. Checkout. We had asked for and confirmed a late checkout (1:00 p,m.) on the day of our departure. We began receiving phone calls and doorbell rings at 12:30 if we were coming to the Preferred Area to check out. It was actually hard to finish packing with these repeated interruptions.
We LOVED the resort! Absolutely beautiful! But next time, we will know more of what to expect, especially in terms of price, and will act accordingly.- Van E.

We just got off our Antarctica cruise on Ponant and it was the best thing we have ever done. We have been on 48 cruises and the last 12 or 13 by Dr Gary. Thank you for your expertise and being there for us on our flight delay and rescheduling us while we flew. He also saved us money on business class to Nice. We had the most amazing time but did not love the hotel in Santiago even though it is a Ritz Carlton. We love smaller boutique hotels but it was included in the rate. Gari recommended the Ponant Le Commandant Charcot. I have been on Regent, Silversea and Seabourn with Gary. This ship did superb Antarctic navigation aboard La Commandant Charcot leaving from Ushuaia through Drakes Passage, adventuring west along Antarctica from Marguerite Bay to Cape Adare and then up to Lyttelton, NZ. This was absolutely other-worldly and my best trip to Antarctica so far (have gone 3 times).
The captain & Expedition Leader went out of their way to provide an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience including navigation along the Ross Ice Shelf, navigation through ice floes, expeditions on fast ice & the actual continent of Antarctica to experience the flora & fauna and visits to many historic sites
Negative passenger comments of Charcot should be ignored (if there are any). Too often complaining passengers ignored the ample warnings before & during the cruise. Adverse conditions may mean desired experiences cannot be done without comprising passenger & crew safety but 90% was completed and a few surprises. I very much appreciated this Captain & Leaders’ respect for a harsh & unforgiving environment & their insistence on the primacy of passenger/crew safety and doing it in the utmost of luxury. The only thing that I think could top this is outer space!- Susan B.

Gari suggested Ponant and I couldn’t be any happier. I had only done mass market and I had no clue that this was going to be such a game-changer. Ponant is one of the only lines that offers cruises without a solo supplement. For almost the same price as a mass market Caribbean cruise on Celebrity or Holland (200%), I was able to book a decent balcony on an ultra-luxury Ponant cruise, thanks to Gari. Le Champlain is a beautiful mega-yacht with a modern, minimalist design. Everything is included - food, drinks, service, stateroom, lectures and so forth. Everything was wonderful and included in the price. All breakfast, lunches and dinners were excellent - similar to a fine dining French restaurant. The included wine and champagne were also of extremely good quality. I actually preferred the included Charles Heidsieck to the Veuve Clicquot served. Although it’s a French cruise line, they also speak English. The service staff is largely English-speaking! Several passengers who did not speak any French at all thoroughly enjoyed the cruise. In fact, Captain Garcia went out of his way to include English passengers in the activities, conducting a captain's table in English and a separate remote bridge tour just for them. This particular cruise featured lectures in oceanography and marine biology conducted in French. Lectures on other topics were also offered in English. If I had to criticize any aspect of the cruise, I would say that the anchorages in the Grenadines were more popular and less out-of-the way than the ones I had visited on a sailing cruise years earlier. The ship has 92 cabins and suites, but it's still large relative to a sailing yacht. For such a small ship, it was extremely stable with little movement while sailing, which was very comfortable.- Drew N.
Do not plan a trip without calling Gari who planned our "wow" trip in Egypt. We initially started trying to piece it together, we would have missed so much if we did not enlist his services. The itinerary was so detailed without ever feeling like we had too much. We saw the real "Egypt" that we otherwise would have missed and we did it in luxury with the best tour guides I can imagine. I cannot say enough great things about Gari at Cruise Planners. He is absolutely amazing to work with and genuinely cares about each of his clients. My husband and I were not sure where exactly we wanted to go and gave him only two things we wanted—to visit Lake Como and eat great food. We stayed at the Ritz Maldives (not as good as Bora Bora) in mid February booked by Gari and he guided us through everything. We took the speed boat transfer which took about 50 mins to get to the resort, at which point we were greeted and taken to our upgraded beach villa oceanside. The app had shown this room category weeks before and I didn’t ask for my original OW as I was planning to give the beach villa a try. This villa ended up being great for viewing the bioluminescent plankton right outside our villa at night. The beach sand on the ocean side was not the powdery white sand you would expect and had shards of broken coral. This made us prefer to go swim at the beach bar on the lagoon side or the amazing main infinity pool on most days. The villa overall was well appointed and still felt new. Being able to slide all the doors open was amazing. However it does cause wet floors if you don’t turn off the AC an hour or more before fully opening the doors. The included snacks, refreshed daily were excellent, especially the truffle chips.
We dined at all restaurants during our stay and must say that the quality of food and service are both excellent. My favorite was the tasting menu at Iwau which was a nice experience at sunset. A close second was the seafood buffet dinner at the beach bar which included grilled seafood (lots of lobster) and sashimi served from a chiller. Pro tip- if you like to drink a lot…they allow you to buy bottles of liquor and can move it to the restaurants you are at each day and will make cocktails for you and only charge extra for alcoholic mixers. The 1L Grey Goose (260++) was probably the best deal. Markup on the Diplomatico and Blanton’s was high, but bartenders made cocktails well (not true of all Maldives resorts, including Vommuli). Take advantage of the Bonvoy discounts, which were significant. Discount at the Eau Bar made the sushi and sashimi platter at lunch a favorite during the stay. It also made breakfast, and the IWAU dinner, relatively cheaper.
We spent most of our time relaxing but we did the jet ski excursion and added on a visit to the sandbank as that is the only place you are technically allowed to fly a drone. The trip was 90 mins total and included jet skiing to the sandbank and then snorkeling nearby and then jet skiing back. Not worth it, to be honest. Snorkeling wasn’t great at the sandbar or the resort, which was expected as Gari told us.
There were two cocktail hours during our 6 night stay which were hosted at the beach bar. Both were very generous with free flowing alcohol and snacks and the opportunity to mingle with guests and staff you had met during the trip. The staff are absolutely amazing here.
I had asked if an OW was available for us to switch to during our stay and was told that we would be able to move for our last night. Our Aris meeha surprised us with a 2 bedroom OW ocean side. These villas are absolutely amazing and was an excellent end to our stay.

Came back from Bora Bora at the Four Seasons - nicest hotel I ever stayed at and we were upgraded because Dr Gary has the magic touch. He advised me really well on flights and also what type of room to pick before we were upgraded even further. I have booked all my cruises with him and he is the best travel advisor on the planet. He also returns emails and texts quickly and solved an issue with a canceled flight with an airline while I was in the air. I want to write for several reasons. I booked my Antarctica expedition with Gari. He suggested it and I loved every moment. After booking, the rate went down by $2800 and HE CALLED ME to get the lower rate. Additionally, he got me lower rates on business class seats to and from Argentina. We also did a tour he built on Kensington through Patagonia region and he nailed every part of that trip also. I highly recommend Kensington. Thank you Gari for getting us the really amazing unpublished rates and getting us even lower rates AFTER we booked and paid for our trip. We just got back from booking at the Four Seasons in Bora Bora (yes we traveled during Covid).
Not only did Gary save us money but we were upgraded to one of the larger overwater villas with a pool. He really took care of us and we were so amazed with his generosity and also his availability and patience with me.
He always took my calls, gave me his cell phone and was always there with every question we had. Even when we checked in for our flight from LAX we asked him if the upgrade from the airline was worth the additional fee and he NEGOTIATED a lower rate and upgraded us to business class on the spot (another $400 saved).

I have traveled on hundreds of trips, literally. Gari set up my Antarctic adventure with Quark Expeditions. It was beyond amazing and he nailed everything exactly as I expected and assisted in everything for the same price you would get it on Quark, except he provided an onboard credit!
