Green harvest
The Publix grocery chain has started a new partnership which will turn the store’s food waste into liquid fertilizer. Publix stores in Broward County, Fla., will have fruits, vegetables, meats and bakery products collected by Pompano Beach-based Organic Recovery to keep them out of landfills when the products are past their sell-by date. This material will be turned into a liquid soil amendment, harvest-to-harvest (H2H). Organic Recovery hopes to begin serving Publix stores in Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties soon.
