Did you know?
- Although accidents have happened, cruise ships' environmental standards meet or surpass all U.S. and international laws.
- The cruise industry represents only 0.2 percent of all ocean-going vessels worldwide.
- In the last 10 years, cruise ships have cut their waste and garbage almost in half, while sustaining a growth in cruise capacity averaging 7.6 percent annually.
Olympic Green
The new Olympic Aquatics Center in Beijing is showcasing some fantastic green design. Nicknamed the "Water Cube", the rectangular steel frame is covered by brightly lit blue bubbles which reduce energy costs by 30%. The material absorbs solar radiation while reducing thermal loss. Also, the humidity and air-conditioning systems are more eco-friendly. The 2008 Olympics are coming this summer. Catch all the blue-water action in this cool “green” building.
